Passionate
Passion might be the most important attribute on this list for some employers. A passion for your job often leads to results beyond what is expected. The community manager needs to demonstrate a passion for social media. Find someone who has built a large Twitter following on his or her own time. Dig deep to discover the blogger who updates his or her personal blog three to five times a week.
We’d love to hear what you think about our list. Are there any traits you’d add?
hey great post !in your opinion, is the age an important criteria for a company in search of social media manager ?
@fgattoni:I don’t think age should necessarily be a factor in searching for a social media manager. Currently brands might be flocking to college interns or younger people simply because they view social media as something that is foreign to them. However, as social media expands and becomes a vital part of marketing, I feel brands will realize that everyone should (and will) learn how to leverage social media for marketing. Hope this answers your question
Nice list. To go along with Persuasive, I would add that a good social media manager should also understand business. That goes a long way toward helping company management understand the benefits of social media. I like to make it clear that, generally speaking, social media isn’t as much about selling a widget as it is about customer service which, while maybe not immediately apparent, generally results in increased revenue through repeat business and positive word of mouth.
